An arc flash occurs when a rapid release of electrical current leaves its intended path and travels through the air from one conductor to another, or to the ground, causing an explosion known as an arc blast. This often-violent phenomenon can lead to serious injury or death to those in close proximity due to the dangerous release of radiant heat of up to 35,000F degrees.
